Dick’s House of Sport Officially Open at The Parks Mall

Dick’s House of Sport, an experiential retail concept featuring virtual golf, virtual batting cages and a rock climbing wall, is now open at The Parks Mall at Arlington.

“It has been a long time coming, and it was definitely worth the wait. Dick’s House of Sport is such an excellent addition to The Parks Mall at Arlington, bringing new energy and much needed vibrance to what was once a quiet wing of our beloved shopping center,” said Lorie Lisius, senior general manager at The Parks Mall.

“We thank our community for their patience and are excited to finally and officially welcome Dick’s House of Sport to The Parks Mall,” she said.  

The company converted the vacant 120,000 sq. ft. former Sears anchor location for the new retail concept, vacating its previous 82,000 sq. ft. site at the Parks mall. Mall ownership can now transform the former Dick’s Sporting Goods space to attract multiple new retail, restaurant and service tenants.

“The City of Arlington is very grateful, as Dick's House of Sport has scored a big win with their upgrade as a well-placed anchor at the Parks at Arlington,” said Marty Wieder, executive director of the Arlington Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

“The new Dick's House of Sport has helped us show how we can do something similar should we ever need to replace another anchor in the future.  Be assured that Arlington will continue to be proactive, so the Parks remains among the best mall options in all of North Central Texas,” he said.

These changes are part of a $45 million, multi-phase redevelopment of The Parks Mall, with performance-based economic development incentives approved by Arlington City Council.  

As part of the performance agreement approved by the City Council, Dick’s Sporting Goods would invest a minimum of $25 million on Phase 1a to convert the former Sears space to Dick’s House of Sport by 2026. The mall owner would then invest a minimum of $20 million in Phase 1b to convert the Dick’s Sporting Goods site into one or more tenant spaces by 2030.

If these and other performance goals are met, the City would provide grant payments over up to 15 years for both Phase 1a and Phase 1b. Grant payments for Phase 1a will be equivalent to 70% of the City’s portion of sales tax revenue generated by the new Dick’s House of Sports, not to exceed $500,000 annually during the agreement period, up to $5 million total. The grant payments for Phase 1b will be equivalent to 70% of the City’s portion of sales tax generated by tenants in the space, up to 20% of the actual capital investment, not to exceed $5 million total.
