Free Tax Prep Assistance Available at the Arlington Public Library

Tax season has arrived, and the Arlington Public Library is here to help. We’ve partnered with AARP and VITA to offer free tax preparation assistance.
AARP Tax-Aide
Tax-Aide from AARP will be available at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library and the Southwest Branch Library starting Saturday, Feb. 3 through Saturday, April 11, 2026.
Patrons must go in person to their preferred location, either Southwest or Downtown, to schedule appointments. Staff will be unable to schedule appointments over the phone. Sign-ups will open on Monday, Jan. 26 at both locations. An appointment binder will be available for the public at each location for patrons to fill in their name in an appointment slot.

Tax-Aide appointments at the Southwest Branch are available at the following times:
- Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No appointments available at the Southwest Branch on Tuesday, March 3.
AARP has provided free tax preparation and filing services for more than 68 million low- and moderate-income taxpayers since 1968. Tens of thousands of volunteers assist taxpayers at libraries nationwide.
VITA – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
United Way of Tarrant County is proud to provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), free tax preparation assistance for individuals and households with an annual income of $67,000 or less. Through VITA, qualifying individuals receive quality tax preparation services by IRS-certified volunteers.
VITA will offer tax-aide at the East Library and Recreation Center at the following times:
- Thursday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Thursday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Thursday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All appointments are made online. Walk in appointments are unavailable.

What to bring to your VITA appointment:
- Photo ID. Any government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, can be obtained from your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
- Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Don’t have a Social Security card? Order one here. You can find additional information about your ITIN here.
- Copy of last year’s tax return. You can request your tax transcripts from the IRS for free. After verifying your identity, you can view, print or download your tax transcripts immediately online. Or, get your transcripts by mail in five to 10 days, either by requesting them online or by phone. Start here.
- W-2. A W-2 shows your wage-earning information and is usually mailed or emailed to you. If you haven’t received your W-2 by January 31, please contact the HR person at your company.
- SSA-1099, 1099-R and 1099-G. Visit SSA.gov or TWC.State.TX.US.
- Cash income amount and work expenses. Visit IRS.gov for more information.
- 1095-A health coverage form. If you are enrolled through HealthCare.gov, this is the form that shows your household Marketplace plan. Learn how to access it here.
- Direct deposit information. Please bring your bank account and routing number information. These can be found at the bottom of any check or deposit slip that is linked to the account you want to use. You also can find this on your account statements or through your banking app or online account. You can call your bank for help if you have trouble finding or accessing the information.
Use Arlington Public Library Computers to File Taxes
Our public computers are available for use for those who would like to file their taxes online. There are a number of sites that offer e-filing services; some free and some fee-based. Payment may need to be submitted online by entering credit card or debit account information. A valid email address is necessary to file taxes electronically.
