By Arlington Public Library Communications

The Arlington Public Library is committed to providing welcoming spaces, trusted resources, and services that bring the community together. To ensure the continued sustainability of these offerings, the library regularly reviews its policies and fee structures, with approval from the Arlington City Council. These updates are designed to align with citywide practices, support modest cost recovery, and help the library operate efficiently while caring for shared public spaces. Additionally, the updates ensure that library services and meeting rooms remain accessible to residents and community groups, without directly competing with local private venues. Together, these changes help maintain the long-term availability of library services and keep public spaces inclusive and welcoming.

What has Changed

Minor adjustments have been made to related policies to streamline processes and provide clearer guidance for room use. While some fees have been updated, the library remains fine free to support continued access to materials for the community.

Non-Resident Library Card Fee

The annual non-resident library card fee has increased from $50 to $120. This change better reflects the value of services provided and aligns more closely with the average cost of common subscription-based services.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Fee

The interlibrary loan fee has increased from $2 to $5. This adjustment helps offset a portion of the rising postage and delivery costs required to borrow materials from other library systems.

Credit Card Transaction Fee

A 2.75% credit card transaction fee has been applied to all credit card payments. This aligns the library with other City of Arlington departments and supports consistent financial practices.

Meeting and Community Room Fees

Meeting and community room fees are based on the type of reservation. Different pricing reflects how library spaces are used and helps ensure rooms remain accessible, well maintained, and available for community activities.
