City to Celebrate Completion of Debbie Lane Road Widening Project

You're invited! Arlington's Public Works Department will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Friday to celebrate the completion of the voter-approved Debbie Lane widening project between State Highway 360 and the Mansfield city limits.

The community is invited to join us in celebrating this milestone. The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2026, at the intersection of Glenn Day Drive and Debbie Lane in South Arlington. The event will include brief remarks from city officials and a ribbon cutting.

As we kick off another school year, motorists will experience improved traffic flow along Debbie Lane. The 1.5-mile roadway project improved six lane-miles of roadway, transforming Debbie Lane from a two-lane road into a four-lane roadway. The improvements increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve access for residents, commuters, and the area’s growing developments and businesses.

This major road-widening project represents a significant investment in Arlington’s transportation infrastructure and future. With approximately 23,000 vehicles traveling along Debbie Lane each day, the improvements will help accommodate growing traffic demand and improve mobility along the corridor.

Key project improvements included:

• Widening Debbie Lane to a 4-lane concrete roadway with raised medians, streetlights, landscaping, and sidewalks
• Drainage system improvements
• Water and sanitary sewer line extensions
• New traffic signals at Tabasco Trail, South Collins Street, Lost Canyon Trail, Glenn Day Drive, and at the RaceTrac/Sonic driveway

This project was driven by several key factors:

• Increasing Capacity: Accommodating growing traffic demand through expanded roadway infrastructure.
• Improving Mobility: Reducing congestion on Debbie Lane to improve traffic flow.
• Supporting the City’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Initiative: Contributing to Arlington’s broader efforts to improve traffic flow and air quality.
• Voter Approval and Funding: Approved by Arlington voters as part of the 2018 Bond Election and recommended by the Citizens Bond Committee. Funding was provided through the City of Arlington street bond funds, water bond funds, sanitary sewer renewal funds, and the Tarrant County 2021 Transportation Bond Program.
• Aligning with City Priorities: Supports City Council priorities to Enhance Mobility and Strengthen our Neighborhoods.
