City and Tarrant County leaders gathered Friday morning to celebrate the completion of the voter-approved Debbie Lane widening project in South Arlington.
The joint bond-funded project transformed a 1.5-mile section of Debbie Lane between State Highway 360 and the Mansfield city limits from a two-lane road into a four-lane roadway with new sidewalks and medians, lighting and other improvements. These investments are designed to increase roadway capacity, reduce traffic congestion, and improve access for residents, commuters and the area’s growing residential and commercial development.
This major road-widening project represents a significant investment in Arlington’s transportation infrastructure and future. With approximately 23,000 vehicles traveling along Debbie Lane each day, the improvements will help accommodate growing traffic demand and improve mobility along the corridor, Public Works Keith Brooks said. Brooks spoke Friday's ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, Arlington City Council District 3 Representative Nikkie Hunter and Tarrant County Director of Field Operations Jason Thomas.
Every dollar that Arlington and the county put into Debbie Lane is "a signal to the market that this part of Tarrant County is open for business and built to grow," Thomas said at the celebration.
"Infrastructure like this is economic development. Every business that considers relocating here, every developer scouting a site, every logistics company mapping out a distribution route - they are looking at roads like Debbie Lane. They're asking: can freight move efficiently? Can employees get to work without sitting in gridlock? Is this a corridor that can support growth?," Thomas said. "Debbie Lane now answers those questions. By closing the gap between the four-lane sections on either end, we've created a continuous, reliable corridor connecting Mansfield and Arlington and Highways 287 and 360."
