If you enjoy trees and want to help keep Arlington’s urban forest healthy, consider becoming a Citizen Forester!

The Citizen Forester program, offered by the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council, provides training in tree planting, pruning, and urban forest care to support local communities. Since 2006, more than 300 volunteers have completed the program, contributing to tree health, public green space maintenance, and environmental stewardship across North Texas. Participants get hands-on experience and work directly with city and county partners to protect and enhance local urban forests.

Arlington Parks, Recreation & Culture will be the host of a new training series beginning September 1, 2026. Classes will be held every other Tuesday through November 10, from 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. Attendance at all sessions is required.

The deadline to apply is Friday, August 21. Participants will be selected by lottery. If chosen, a $100 fee is required to cover tuition, training materials, references, and membership in the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council. Ready to become a Citizen Forester and help care for our urban forest? Fill out the interest form today!
