Your daily walk can do more than get your steps in, it can help keep your neighborhood safe. The Dog Walker Watch, led by the Arlington Police Department, offers residents — especially those age 50 and older — a simple way to stay active while making a positive impact in their community.
Designed for those who already enjoy walking, jogging or spending time outdoors, the program encourages participants to stay aware during their regular routines and serve as extra “eyes and ears” for police. There is no additional time commitment, making it an easy and flexible way to stay engaged.
“It’s not only about looking for crime — you’re also checking out the general condition of your neighborhood,” said program volunteer, Dave Ricy.
In addition to supporting public safety, participants can help identify everyday issues such as road hazards or fallen trees, contributing to the overall well-being of their neighborhoods.
City officials say the program has had a positive impact across Arlington, helping residents feel safer and more connected — particularly those who are regularly out in their communities.
