This week, the Arlington Police Department celebrated the opening of a new storefront in the Entertainment District.
The Arlington City Council approved funding for the satellite office, which is located at Choctaw Stadium near E. Randol Mill Road and Ballpark Way.
This is the fifth storefront that APD has opened across the city and the first in the North District. The other storefronts are located inside the Parks Mall, at the Arlington Highlands, and in the southwest and southeast corners of the city.
The 1,180 square foot space will give officers working stadium events a centralized location where they can complete police reports and other administrative tasks without having to leave the Entertainment District. Additionally, officers will be able to use it during their scheduled breaks to escape the heat and other elements. Most importantly, it enhances APD’s visible presence in the Entertainment District, demonstrating the department’s continued commitment to keeping visitors safe when they come to the city for major events.
“When people come to the Arlington Entertainment District, they want to have fun and feel safe,” said Deputy Chief Steve Williams, who oversaw the project. “This storefront helps us achieve that and gives visitors an additional opportunity to engage with our police officers.”
In addition to work stations, the office also contains historical sports and department memorabilia to tie in with the theming of the Entertainment District.
Although the storefront will be accessible to officers 24/7, it will not be staffed to conduct public business. Members of the public seeking in-person assistance should still go to the lobby of the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center at 620 W. Division Street or to one of the Arlington Police Department's three substation locations.
APD would like to thank the Texas Rangers for their support and partnership on this project.
