The City of Arlington is lacing up its walking shoes and inviting residents to join the Walktober Challenge, a two-month fitness initiative designed to get the community moving. Hosted by the City of Arlington's new ACTIV Center, Walktober encourages participants ages 50 and older to walk at least 40 days between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, 2025.

Walktober is more than just a challenge; it's a chance to build healthy habits and connect with the community. Whether you prefer a stroll on the ACTIV Center’s indoor track, an invigorating hike on an outdoor trail, or a leisurely walk through your own neighborhood, every step counts. Arlington's 99 other city parks also provide the perfect backdrop for your fitness journey.

Join Mayor Jim Ross at the Walktober Kickoff

Kick off your challenge in style at the Walktober Kickoff Event on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the ACTIV Center, 2061 W. Green Oaks Blvd. Start your journey by walking with Arlington Mayor Jim Ross on the outdoor trail and enjoy a morning of games, food, and fun.

Ready to Walk?

Walktober makes it easy to stay motivated with a variety of engaging activities. Participants can look forward to pop-up walking events, off-site group walks, and special wellness challenges throughout the two months. To help you track your progress, the ACTIV Center will provide calendars for all participants.

Prizes and Recognition

Commit to your health and be rewarded! All participants who walk 40 days or more will receive a commemorative Walktober shirt. In addition, special prizes will be awarded to those who log the furthest distance during the challenge.

How to Participate

The cost to join is $5 per person. Participants must be current ACTIV Center members. You can register in person at the ACTIV Center or online through Oct. 15.
