Safe Routes to School Project Begins to Improve Pedestrian Safety

The Public Works Department is pleased to announce that the 2020 Safe Routes to School Project is now underway. Construction began in August 2025 and enhancements will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility near local schools by providing new sidewalks, crosswalks, and other infrastructure upgrades to improve pedestrian pathway.
We appreciate the community’s patience during construction and look forward to providing safer routes for students and families.

This project is estimated to be completed by June 2026, and includes the following improvements:
- American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks, driveways, and ramps
- Adding a traffic signal at Webb Elementary School

Cardinal Street (Highland Drive to Perrin Street)
Sunnyvale Drive (Mitchell Street to Dawn Street)

Thornton Elementary
Marilyn Lane (Hillcrest Drive to Morningside Drive)
Marilyn Lane (Sherry Street to Catalo Lane)
Reever Street (Sherry Street to Catalo Lane)
Park Row Drive (Carter Drive to Watson Road)
Sherry Street (Cottie Lane to Bradford Drive)
Carter Drive (Stampede Drive to Patio Terrace)
Webb Elementary
Center Street (Rogers Street to Slaughter Street)
