The Arlington City Council will vote on the proposed $750.7 million Fiscal Year 2026 operating budget and property tax rate after a public hearing at its evening meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025.
The 6:30 p.m. evening meeting will be held in the Council Chamber, which is located between City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library.
About the Budget
The proposed budget for the next fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1, includes spending cuts, new fees and fee adjustments, and a three-cent property tax rate increase to close a $20 million budget shortfall in what is needed for Arlington to provide the current level of city services. The budget also includes proposed increases in residents’ water and sanitary sewer rates, the garbage collection rate and the stormwater fee.
The proposed budget, presented to Council on Aug. 5, includes a property tax rate of $0.6298 per $100 of assessed value. That proposed rate, if approved, would mean a $4.90 a month or $58.83 annual increase for the average residential property owner.
The Council will hold a second vote on the budget and tax rate on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
