State of the City highlights projects that ensure“Arlington Works"
Published on October 17, 2025
“Arlington Works.”
That was the central message from Jim Ross during his 2025 State of the City Address on Oct. 16, where he highlighted how Arlington’s people, infrastructure, partnerships and innovation power the city’s continued growth and success. The Mayor underscored that Arlington Works is more than a slogan — it’s a commitment to action, resilience and shared purpose.
Ross, who is serving his second term, discussed a variety of topics, including city services, economic development, tourism, Downtown growth, investments in public infrastructure and amenities, and other milestone moments recently celebrated in The American Dream City.
The event at Esports Stadium Arlington + Expo Center was hosted by the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce. During the event, Michael Jacobson, president and CEO of the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, was presented with the fourth annual Mayor’s American Dream Award.
Other highlights include:
Arlington Works on the World Stage
- Arlington has proven why it’s known around the world as a capital of sports, culture, and entertainment. The city hosted major events like AEW’s All In Texas, the PBR Finals, and Kid Rock’s Rock n Rodeo, along with the inaugural Texas Veterans Day Parade and Drone Show — returning this November with Rex Tillerson as Grand Marshal.
- The grand opening of the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation in Arlington marked another proud milestone, drawing national attention and honoring the heroes whose stories will inspire generations to come.
And the world is only watching closer. Arlington will soon take center stage as host of two global events:
- FIFA World Cup 2026: Arlington will host nine matches, including a semifinal, bringing more than 100,000 fans per match day and a $2 billion regional economic impact.
- INDYCAR Grand Prix of Arlington: A 2.73-mile race circuit is already under construction, setting the stage for a premier international motorsports event in March 2026.
Tourism alone generated $3.1 billion in economic impact in 2024, helping fuel jobs, investment and community improvements.
Arlington Works for Economic Growth
- Arlington’s economic development strategy continues to deliver measurable results. Since 2021, the city has welcomed $1.1 billion in private capital investment and 27,000 new jobs, while wages have grown nearly 20 percent.
Major wins this year include:
- Salcomp establishing its North American headquarters in Arlington.
- E-Space bringing 2,000 high-wage aerospace jobs to the Arlington Municipal Airport.
- StatLab expanding its biotech manufacturing operation that supports cancer diagnostics nationwide.
New investments are reshaping the city’s landscape.
- The Caravan Court Hotel project is revitalizing Division Street with a $45 million boutique redevelopment.
- Plans are advancing for the transformation of Lincoln Square/Anthem.
- Downtown continues to flourish with new restaurants and entertainment destinations.
- The Sheraton Hotel property will soon be redeveloped, through a $410 million investment.
Each of these projects demonstrates how Arlington Works — for business, for opportunity, and for a stronger local economy.
Arlington Works Through Responsible Leadership
- This year, the City faced a $26 million budget shortfall—driven by factors including ARPA fund expirations, senior tax freezes, changes to the appraisal district’s reappraisal plan and increased property protests. But rather than cut corners or delay priorities, Arlington responded decisively with a three-part strategy: Financial restructuring, strategic budget reductions and a tax rate adjustment. This balanced approach preserved essential city services while protecting the City’s long-term fiscal stability.
- Thanks to strong financial stewardship, Arlington once again earned top credit ratings from S&P Global Ratings, Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings.
- WalletHub also named Arlington the best-run city in North Texas and second best in the state.
Arlington Works to Keep Our Community Safe
Public safety remains at the core of how Arlington works for its residents.
- This year, overall crime fell 12%, with violent crime down 17% and vehicle thefts down 43%. SmartAsset ranked Arlington the 7th safest big city in the U.S. and 2nd in Texas.
- Innovative tools are making a difference. Arlington’s Drones as First Responders program—among the first in the nation with FAA approval—has improved response times and enhanced officer safety.
- The City also continues to invest in capital projects including, a new Fire Station #8 and future Fire Station #18, the Northside Police Substation and a Public Safety Storefront at Choctaw Stadium
These investments ensure Arlington Works when it matters most — keeping neighborhoods safe and strong.
Arlington Works to Strengthen Infrastructure
Arlington continues to invest in the critical infrastructure that makes everyday life possible.
- In 2024, the City improved more than 27 lane miles of streets, repaired more than 7,000 potholes and kept the $112 million modernization of Pierce-Burch Water Treatment Plant on track.
- The City’s Clean Corridor Initiative has already removed nearly 35,000 pounds of litter in just four months, improving roadway safety and neighborhood pride.
