Arlington Water Utilities is celebrating the national Imagine a Day Without Water campaign by announcing the winners of its 2025 Value of Water Mini Poster Contest. The annual art contest is made possible through the collaboration of Arlington Water Utilities, Arlington Public Library, River Legacy Nature Center, and Tarrant Regional Water District.
Entries for the contest were accepted from Sept. 2 through Oct. 13, 2025. Then, a team of judges from the sponsoring organizations chose one winner in grades pre-k through fourth grade. The winning entries illustrated how water is essential for Arlington residents and the environment in our city.
The competition is timed to draw attention to Imagine a Day Without Water on Oct. 16, 2025, which challenges the public to ponder the valuable role water plays.
In addition to their artwork, students were asked to describe their drawings and why water is important to them. This year winning entries came from the following students.
Pre-K – Naomi – Wood Elementary (AISD)
“Water is important to keep the city healthy. I like to play and swim in the water.”
Kindergarten – Kensli – Miller Elementary (AISD)
“I love animals and sea animals and plants and trees but without water they would be gone. That’s why water is important in my life!!”
First grade – Adan – Wimbish World Language Academy (AISD)
“I drew water falling from the sky to give us water to use every day. Water is important for me because it helps me in many areas of life.”
Second grade – Nathalie – Wimbish World Language Academy (AISD)
“The Earth in my drawing represents how water connects us across the world through big and small moments of life. Clean water is important in my life because we will all be thirsty and smelly without it.”
Third grade – Brianna – Bebensee Elementary (AISD)
“Water is important for all living things because it helps them live and grow. I drink water every day!”
Fourth grade – Augustus – Mary Moore Elementary (AISD)
“Water is important in my life because without it, I would not be able to do some of my favorite things or drink. We need water to live.”
Contest winners for each grade level, along with their teachers, will receive an invitation to be recognized at an Arlington City Council meeting in December 2025. In addition, winners will receive a fun STEAM kit, books, passes to the Art and Science of Arachnids Exhibit at River Legacy Nature Center, and swimming pool passes from Arlington Parks and Recreation.
