The Arlington Tennis Center is now serving up a major upgrade — brand-new, high-efficiency LED lighting that transforms the playing experience for competitors and spectators alike.

Originally, each court was equipped with six light fixtures. Today, that number has doubled to 12 per court, bringing the total from 132 to 264 light heads across the facility. Each 500-watt LED unit produces approximately 8,000 lumens — totaling an impressive 96,000 lumens per court. The result: dramatically improved visibility, consistency, and performance for evening play.

This upgrade elevates Arlington Tennis Center to Class II lighting standards, suitable for NCAA championship-level events.

“With these new lights, we’re able to host tournaments and matches we couldn’t before,” said James Helvey, Tennis Services Manager and Head Tennis Professional for Arlington Parks, Recreation & Culture. “In the past, we had to worry about weather delays and poor visibility forcing reschedules. Our upgraded lighting allows events to continue seamlessly well into the evening hours.”

The enhanced lighting will not only secure existing events but also position Arlington as a stronger contender for USTA Junior and Senior events, NCAA tournaments, and regional leagues, furthering the city’s reputation as a premier tennis destination.

This transformative project was made possible through the generous support of: Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), USTA National, USTA Texas, Greater Fort Worth Tennis Coalition, Arlington Tennis Association and GFT Charity.

Helvey added, “We’re deeply grateful to every organization and individual who helped make this possible. Their commitment recognizes the impact Arlington Tennis Center has on our community, the North Texas region, and beyond.”

Located in south Arlington at 500 W. Mayfield Road, Arlington Tennis Center features 20 lighted outdoor tennis courts, 10 lighted outdoor pickleball courts, a full-service pro shop, concession area, and locker rooms with showers. ATC’s teaching staff includes certified professionals and experienced on-court instructors offering classes, drills, and leagues for players of all ages and skill levels. Recreational leagues are also available for both tennis and pickleball.
