The City of Arlington’s Public Works Engineering Operation Division has completed Phase I of the Residential Rebuild Sunnyvale Drive project. This $3.8 million voter-approved rebuild project has improved the mobility and walkability in two neighborhoods located near Sunnyvale Drive (Hensley Terrace to Dawn Drive) in East Arlington and Marcellus Court and Slaughter Street (North Center Street to North Mesquite Street) in North Arlington.

Construction of this project began in August 2023 and completed in June 2025.

The 2022 Residential Rebuild Phase I - Sunnyvale Drive Project was designed to improve roadway safety, accessibility, environmental resilience, economic activity, and residents' overall quality of life. The rebuilding of Marcellus Court, Slaughter Street, and Sunnyvale Drive included upgrades to pavement, water and sewer, sidewalks, storm drainage, pavement markings, and streetlights. This project, which aligns with the Arlington City Council priorities of Strengthening Our Communities and Enhance Mobility was part of the $10.3 million 2022 Capital Improvements Projects for the Residential Rebuild Program. Improvements were funded through the 2018 Bond Election, with additional support from Community Development Block Grants.

Phase 1:

The work completed involved the full reconstruction of Marcellus Court, Slaughter Street, and Sunnyvale Drive to address severe pavement deterioration and outdated infrastructure. The project included replacing existing pavement with new concrete surfaces, renewing underground water and sewer lines, upgrading storm drainage systems, and installing new sidewalks, pavement markings, and streetlights. These improvements modernized the roadway network, enhanced safety and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, and improved the neighborhood’s overall reliability, appearance, and livability.

Residential rebuild projects reconstruct worst pavement condition roadways, provide sidewalks where applicable, and improve quality of life of residential neighborhoods. This program is essential to maintain the state of good repair of residential roadways.

During Fiscal Year 2025, Arlington has invested more than $20 million on the Roadway Rebuild Capital Improvements Program, which includes Residential Rebuilds, and Roadway Reconstruction.
