The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection to the murder of Alphonso Lewis Jr, who was shot and killed inside his southwest Arlington apartment in December 2021.
Following a thorough investigation, APD Homicide Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 39-year-old Jason Reyes on one count of Capital Murder. On October 30, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Mr. Reyes in Fort Worth and took him into custody without incident.
On December 10, 2021, at approximately 4:59 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 6300 block of Rivertrail Circle to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived on scene, several people pointed them to a specific apartment. Inside, they found Mr. Lewis lying unresponsive in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Based on evidence found in the apartment, it appears Mr. Lewis and his killer were engaging in high-risk drug activity at the time of the shooting.
Detectives recovered surveillance footage that showed a masked individual wearing gloves leaving the apartment complex a short time after the shooting is believed to have occurred. In 2022, the department shared a still image of this person of interest with the public in hopes of identifying him. Investigators later received a tip that the individual looked similar to Mr. Reyes.
Through the course of their investigation, detectives learned Mr. Lewis knew Mr. Reyes and had sold drugs to him in the past.
Based on their investigation, they believe Mr. Reyes was with Mr. Lewis when the shooting occurred and that he took possession of Mr. Lewis’ cell phone. Cell phone records showed that Mr. Reyes’ phone pinged near the crime scene just prior to the shooting. Following the shooting, both Mr. Reyes’ and Mr. Lewis’ phones began pinging in the same locations across Arlington.
After consulting with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, detectives moved forward with obtaining an arrest warrant.
Mr. Reyes is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail.
