Here’s a sneak peek at three exciting workshops at HAKcon:
Reverse Engineering: How Things Work Activity: In this workshop, students become engineers and take apart common gadgets—like disposable cameras and small appliances—to discover how they function. They’ll explore gears, circuits, and hidden components, learning the science behind the technology they use daily. STEAM Focus: Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, product design.
Engineering for Accessibility: Designing a More Inclusive World Activity: Students will experience real-world accessibility challenges—navigating a space blindfolded, using a wheelchair in a tight space—and then put their creativity to the test by designing innovative solutions that make the world more inclusive for people of all abilities. STEAM Focus: Human-centered design, biomedical engineering, assistive technology.
Biomedical Engineering: Engineering the Human Body Activity: In this workshop, students will explore the fascinating world of biomedical engineering by examining different prosthetic limb designs. They’ll experiment with materials and mechanics, learning how engineers create life-changing medical devices to help people regain mobility and independence. Engineering Focus: Biomedical engineering, material science. This is an amazing opportunity for middle and high school students to engage in hands-on STEAM experiences, interact with industry professionals, and get inspired for future careers.
