The Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) recently recognized an Arlington Water Utilities engineer with its Sidney L. Allison Award. Robert Stanley, AWU Senior Engineer - Planning and Asset Management, received the honor March 20 at Texas Water 2025 in Houston. Texas Water is the annual statewide conference for WEAT and the Texas section of the American Water Works Association (TAWWA). The award honors significant contributions to the engineering, science, and/or operation and maintenance of wastewater collection and pumping stations with the mission to transport wastewater to a treatment plant.
Stanley has been with the City of Arlington for 20 years. He oversees a team specializing in in-house modeling and master planning, GIS services, and asset management. He is at the forefront of the department’s ambitious initiative to reduce infiltration and inflow and sanitary sewer overflows.
Water Utilities Director Alex Whiteway nominated Stanley for the award and highlighted his leveraging of advanced technologies like SmartCover manholes and computerized data integration to improve the City’s maintenance of sanitary sewer lines.
"Throughout his distinguished career, Robert has been a dedicated innovator in the wastewater industry, contributing to the advancement of modeling, design, and construction of lift stations and pipelines,” Whiteway says. “At the City of Arlington, he has played a pivotal role in wastewater modeling, master planning, sanitary sewer evaluation studies, and flow monitoring, critical components of Arlington Water Utilities’ wastewater collection system."
Arlington Water Utilities’ communications and outreach team also received an Honorable Mention Watermark Award at the Texas Water 2025 ceremony on March 20. The Watermark Award competition recognizes Texas Section AWWA and WEAT members who have produced top quality communications. Arlington’s recognition was for a group of water conservation handouts called “Don’t be corny – save water!” that were designed for distribution and Trunk or Treat events.
