Construction on this project began in April 2023, with the majority of work completed by June 2025, and final elements currently underway. Traffic signal installation at Cooper Street and Turner Warnell Road is anticipated to be finished within the next month.

The purpose of this project was to widen Turner Warnell Road, between South Cooper Street and Matlock Road, from two lanes with a center turn lane to four lanes with a divided median, thereby increasing capacity and mobility while reducing congestion.

This project was funded by the 2014 Street Bond funds and Water & Sanitary Sewer Renewal funds, supporting the City Council’s priorities to Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods. Key project improvements include:

  • Widening Turner Warnell Road to a 4-lane divided concrete roadway with two lanes in each direction
  • Construction of a new 2-lane concrete roadway with one lane in each direction on Grimes Street connecting Turner Warnell Road to Dan Gould Drive
  • Construction of sidewalks on both sides of Turner Warnell Road
  • Installation of an underground drainage system
  • Installation of streetlights and communication conduits along the roadway.
  • Landscaping and irrigation
  • Water and sanitary sewer improvements
  • Traffic signal improvements with new signs and pavement markings

We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you.
