The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection to the murder of Justin Dotson, who was shot and killed inside his apartment in 2017.
Following a thorough investigation, Homicide Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Devin Cameron-Mack on one count of Capital Murder. Mr. Cameron-Mack was already in custody at the Tarrant County Jail for an unrelated aggravated robbery offense when the warrant was served.
On October 4, 2017, at approximately 7:32 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Valleywood Drive to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived on scene, witnesses pointed them to an apartment where they found Mr. Dotson lying unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives believe the victim was targeted during an attempted robbery associated with suspected narcotics activity.
During the initial investigation, crime scene investigators collected multiple pieces of physical evidence from the apartment, including a blood stain that DNA testing would later reveal did not come from Mr. Dotson. The DNA profile for this unknown individual was uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a national law enforcement database that compares DNA profiles to help solve crimes. The profile did not generate any matches at the time.
In November 2025, detectives were notified of a CODIS hit on the sample. The DNA profile of the unknown individual matched a recently uploaded profile of Devin Cameron-Mack.
Detectives attempted to interview Mr. Cameron-Mack, who denied being involved in the murder. They obtained a search warrant for an additional DNA sample from Mr. Cameron-Mack, which also came back as a match to the DNA sample recovered at the crime scene.
After consulting with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, detectives proceeded with filing criminal charges.
Mr. Cameron-Mack is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail.
