The Public Works Department has launched the public access survey to gather input and feedback from the community. This task is a key step in updating the Arlington’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan and creating the City’s first comprehensive Sidewalk Master Plan.
Purpose and Scope of the Project
This survey represents the next phase of the City’s broader effort to enhance accessibility, connectivity, pedestrian mobility and remove barriers throughout the City of Arlington. The purpose of providing this survey is to:
- Encourage community engagement
- Update the ADA Transition Plan
- Develop a Sidewalk Master Plan
- Understand challenge and barriers resident and visitors encounter with city facilities, pedestrian facilities, programs, services and activities.
- Identify changes that may be needed to the City’s programs, services and activities to remove barriers and be more accessible.
- Identifying and prioritizing future sidewalk improvement projects
An ADA Transition Plan is a required document that identifies barriers and accessibility issues with the city’s facilities, pedestrian facilities, programs, service, and activities. Also, it outlines how and when those barriers will be removed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Sidewalk Master Plan will use the data collected to create a long-term, citywide strategy for improving and expanding pedestrian infrastructure. This will help the City to deliver high-impact improvements where they are most needed—making the city more walkable and inclusive for all.
Survey Schedule
The survey is currently available until March 7, 2026.

Community Engagement Opportunities
The City of Arlington recognizes that input from residents is vital to the success of this initiative. To ensure transparency and encourage public involvement, the city will engage with the community in a variety of ways:
- Partnering with the Mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities
- Launching a project website
- Providing interactive mapping tools
- Distributing online surveys
- Hosting community public meetings
These efforts aim to gather feedback and ensure the final plans reflect the community’s priorities and values.
Building a More Accessible City
The redevelopment of Arlington’s ADA Transition Plan—along with the creation of the Sidewalk Master Plan—will allow the City to better serve all residents by creating a safer, more connected, and more accessible environment. Your patience and cooperation during the data collection
phase is appreciated as Arlington takes this important step toward improving mobility for everyone in our community.
