The Arlington Municipal Court was among 26 courts statewide recognized this month by the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center for demonstrating outstanding contributions to traffic safety and preventing impaired driving in their communities.
Applicants were judged on their activities relating to increasing traffic safety while preventing impaired driving traffic crashes, traffic fatalities, juvenile DUI, child safety seat offenses, red light running, and other traffic related offenses. Arlington received the Center's Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives award in the High-Volume category. This recognition was for efforts that included participating in a Trunk or Treat community event, hosted by the Arlington Police Department, that drew more than 2,000 participants. The Municipal Court handed out sweet treats with traffic safety messages, which included the importance of using sidewalks and to avoid speeding and aggressive driving. Judge Teresa Evans from the Arlington Municipal Court prompted attendees to read the messages before engaging in discussion with her on the topics.
The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center was formed in 1984 to provide professional continuing education and training programs for municipal judges and court personnel throughout Texas. TMCEC is the largest judicial education organization in Texas and one of the largest such organizations in the U.S. All municipal courts in Texas were eligible to apply for an award from TMCEC.
