The Arlington Police Department has made five arrests in connection to the murders of Dayton Allen and Alexis Tyler, who were shot and killed on November 23, 2024 inside a short-term rental in the 600 block of Slaughter Street.

Following a complex and thorough investigation, APD Homicide Detectives obtained warrants for the arrests of 18-year-old Chrisaveon Whitted, 19-year-old Eddie Walker Jr., 21-year-old Demarian Owens, 20-year-old Shannon Steele, and 26-year-old Diamond Curttie on one count of Capital Murder each.

Members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and Arlington PD SWAT located and arrested Mr. Whitted, Mr. Walker, and Mr. Owens on June 18, 2025. Mr. Steele was already in custody in the Dallas County Jail for an unrelated offense when his warrant was served. The Dallas Police Department took Ms. Curttie into custody on June 19, 2025 after confirming her warrant during a traffic stop in their city.

Through the course of their investigation, detectives learned Ms. Tyler rented the apartment that evening to celebrate Mr. Allen’s birthday. Ms. Curttie, who is a relative of Mr. Allen, and the other suspects, who are friends of Mr. Allen, were invited to attend the celebration. Cell phone records showed that all of them met up at a location in Dallas, then traveled to the crime scene in Arlington.

Surveillance video from the complex showed the victims entering the apartment at approximately 10:13 p.m. Ms. Curttie followed behind them a short time later. At around the same time, the other four suspects were captured exiting a white Ford Fusion in the parking lot. They were wearing hoodies that were pulled up to cover their heads as they approached the apartment and one of them was carrying a heavy bag.

At 10:19 p.m., multiple shots were fired and all five suspects were captured on video running from the apartment, getting into the Fusion, and driving away from the scene. Cameras later captured the vehicle in Dallas near the location where they initially met. Detectives confirmed the car belonged to Mr. Owens and obtained GPS data showing it was at the crime scene during the time of the murder.

In December 2024, Mr. Steele was arrested by Dallas PD for an unrelated offense. With DPD’s assistance, APD Detectives executed a search warrant on his home, where they recovered additional cell phones, including one that contained a photo of the gun believed to be used in the murder. Detectives also obtained surveillance footage showing Mr. Steele returning to his home the night of the offense wearing the same clothing seen in the apartment complex surveillance video.

Family members of the victims told detectives that Mr. Allen and the suspects may have been feuding over money. Additional evidence collected from search warrants appears to support those claims.

Mr. Whitted, Mr. Walker, and Mr. Owens are currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail. Mr. Steele and Ms. Curttie are currently being held at the Dallas County Jail.

ORIGINAL RELEASE

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two people.

On November 23, 2024, at approximately 10:22 p.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 600 block of Slaughter Street to investigate reports of shots fired. The 19-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 18-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased from her injuries.

Witnesses told officers after they heard gunshots, they saw a group of individuals run from the direction of the apartment, get into a vehicle, and drive away.

No arrests have been made at this time. Investigators continue to canvas the area for surveillance footage, evidence, and additional witnesses. Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene.
