For many Arlington residents, the arrival of spring inspires spring cleaning around their properties.

Spring cleaning provides the opportunity to discover and dispose of unwanted items that have been hidden in cupboards, on shelves, and in the garage. Spring cleaning yields an abundance of leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, reactive, or potentially hazardous ingredients, otherwise classified as household hazardous waste. This type of waste requires special care for disposal. Improper disposal of household hazardous waste, such as pouring them down drains or toilets, poses a threat to human and animal health and pollutes the environment.

Hazardous waste such as paints, cleaners, oils, pesticides, and batteries will NOT be collected at the curb.

Arlington residents with proof of residency have two free methods to dispose of household hazardous waste:

  1. Take hazardous waste items and batteries to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center, located at 6400 Bridge Street, Fort Worth. Please limit your visits to once per month.
  2. Take hazardous waste items to one of the Arlington Hazardous Household Waste Collection events. These events are a first-come, first-served event. Storage capacity is limited, so please arrive early!

Dry latex paint! To dry the latex paint, add kitty litter/sawdust/mulch and leave the can open. Latex paint that is completely dry may be placed in the trash cart.
