Editor's Note: This article, originally published July 19, was updated July 25 to announce the reopening of all lanes of Green Oaks Boulevard in west Arlington after Atmos Energy completed its time-sensitive repair work.

A portion of Green Oaks Boulevard in West Arlington will be temporarily closed from 10 p.m. Sunday, July 23 through Friday, July 28 while Atmos Energy makes time-sensitive repairs to a natural gas line beneath the roadway. Update: All repairs were completed on Tuesday, July 25 and Green Oaks Boulevard has reopened.

Atmos Energy has highly trained personnel and monitors at the repair site 24/7 to ensure there is no danger to the public during the repair work. To protect the safety of residents and visitors in the area, Arlington public safety personnel are also monitoring the repairs and are in daily communication with Atmos Energy about the progress of its work.

Atmos Energy announced it would perform routine maintenance to safely extract natural gas from an isolated section of the line from approximately 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 24. Residents in the area may hear a noise and the scent of mercaptan, a harmless odorant that gives natural gas its “rotten egg” smell, may be present during the operation.

Atmos Energy customers will not experience any service interruption while the work is being performed, and city staff, public officials, 911 operators, and emergency responders have been advised.
