The new water mains are made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, which is a non-corrosive and flexible pipe suitable for high pressure pipelines.
The streets involved in the 2020 Water Main Replacements project were:
Existing pipe were replaced through a method called, static pipe bursting. This is a process where crews dig holes on both ends of the existing pipe section. Then, the new pipe is pushed through the existing pipe. A bursting head fractures the existing main as the new main moves into place.
This bursting method saves significant amounts of construction time and is less disruptive to residents and businesses. The upgrade will improve service to the affected neighborhoods.
Murphy Pipeline Contractors, Inc. was the contractor for the 2020 Water Main Replacements. The project had 24% participation by minority-owned businesses.
