Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, originates from Mexico and is a two-day celebration that runs from Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022 through Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022. With roots in Aztec and Spanish culture, Día de los Muertos is celebrated today as a joyful event. The multi-day celebration involves family and friends gathering to pay respects to loved ones who have passed on. These celebrations are often fun and lively, as celebrants recall funny events about the departed.
Traditions associated with the holiday include decorating with marigold flowers and decorative skeletons, honoring the deceased by creating home alters called ofrendas, and visiting graves with gifts for the deceased.
Everyone, no matter their cultural background, is invited to celebrate and remember their loved ones on Día de los Muertos. Our celebration will include crafts, folklorico dancing, lotería, a Catrina Dress-Up contest for children 12 & under, and free books for children. This event is free, and all ages are welcome to attend.
