Moth Night - Arlington Citizen Science Program

Celebrate Moth Night with the City of Arlington!

Join the City of Arlington’s Stormwater Education Program for the fourth annual Moth Night, part of the Arlington Citizen Science Program. This special evening event celebrates our nighttime pollinators through observation, education, and hands-on exploration.

We'll be identifying and learning about local moth species in their natural habitat, and discovering the essential role they play as pollinators in North Texas.

Why Moths Matter:

Moths are vital nighttime pollinators, helping many night-blooming plants reproduce. With an estimated 150,000 to over 500,000 species worldwide, moths come in an incredible variety of shapes, sizes, and colors—from tiny pinhead species to those as large as your hand.

What to Expect:

  • Multiple viewing stations will be set up along walking trails and near the pond for moth and insect observation.
  • Bring your camera and curiosity—this is a great chance to take photos and ask questions about local nocturnal insects.
  • Enjoy a special talk from Sam Kieschnick, Urban Biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife, who will share fascinating insights into moths and their importance to our local ecosystem.

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy shoes
  • Water
  • A small flashlight
  • Camera
  • Your sense of wonder!
