Ambassadors For Aging Well (AFAW) is an all-volunteer group which meets monthly to discuss issues of interest to older residents. Our programs are usually planned to impart new information about services and resources in our general area which are unknown to most of the membership.
AFAW is an inclusive group and it is totally free to attend the meetings/events. No membership fee is charged. The group was organized in 2014 to learn from each other, and to bring issues forward to city leaders and the public at large which are important to elders and emerging elders. We advocate for change to make aging in Arlington as good as practical. AFAW works toward removing the stigma about aging. There is no shame in aging, contrary to the stereotypes portrayed on television and in magazines. Aging is not just about declinism and illness and wrinkles. We are a group of active, engaged, vibrant, and friendly people. We try to be a resource of referrals when members have questions or needs. We don’t expect the government to do everything for us but we expect government’s interest and support at times. We help one another and volunteer in the community to make life better for everybody, regardless of age.
Members focus on community and civic participation, housing, transportation, and health and social services.
