The Arlington City Council recently appointed a 31-member Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC), which will hold its first meeting later this month.

The committee, whose members represent a broad and diverse cross-section of the community, will study Arlington's transportation-related needs and present recommendations to the City Council next fall. Enhancing Regional Mobility, such as championing for high-speed rail connectivity in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, ranks as one the City Council's top priorities for the American Dream City.

"This committee is tasked with articulating community needs, gathering information, analyzing data and developing a multi-modal transportation plan framework that will inform future decisions made by the City Council," Community Development and Planning Director John Dugan said.

The Transportation Advisory Committee, chaired by Arlington resident Bill Verkest, is expected to meet roughly once a month for the next year. Each meeting will be advertised in advance on the City's website and will include time for the public to weigh in with their thoughts on transportation, Dugan said.

The committee's kick-off meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 20 on the 3^rd Floor of Arlington City Hall, 101 W. Abram Street.
