Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams Delivers 2016 State of the City Address

Arlington continues to build on success, with several major economic announcements providing a special momentum for The American Dream City heading into 2017. That's the message Mayor Jeff Williams delivered at the 2016 State of the City address, hosted by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce at the Arlington Convention Center on October 24, 2016.

A few of the highlights the mayor discussed this year included:

  • In its latest edition, Money magazine has named Arlington as the "Best Big City" in the South.
  • D.R. Horton, America's Builder and a Fortune 500 company, is constructing its headquarters in Arlington, bringing 500 jobs.
  • Champions Park construction continues with retail and restaurants set to open in early 2017.
  • The Public Works and Transportation Department has been hard at work with over $86 million in city street construction happening right now.
  • The Arlington City Council recently appointed a 31-member Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) tasked with gathering information, analyzing data and developing a multi-modal transportation plan that will inform future decisions made by the City Council.
  • The Arlington Police Department is making significant investments in citizen outreach efforts and youth engagement with initiatives like the award-winning Mentoring Arlington Youth program.
  • Summit Racing Equipment announced that it will open a new $82 million warehouse facility, retail super store and customer support center in Arlington.
  • Skyline Sector 5 celebrated its 15th anniversary with an open house in Arlington.
  • Bell Helicopter, which has conducted flight testing, research and development at the Arlington Municipal Airport for nearly 50 years, signed another long-term lease with the City.
  • Construction for the first phase of Texas Live! has commenced at the project site located in between the Texas Rangers' Globe Life Park and the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
