The Junior League of Arlington (JLA) is aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the largest cornhole tournament on October 23 at The University of Texas at Arlington's Maverick Stadium. The tournament will also include a family fun festival open to the public.
Cornhole is also known as bean toss and is a competitive and fun way to include everyone in the community. "We thought this was a great way to involve our local residents of all ages to come out, have some fun and raise money for a great cause," said Misty Lockhart, the 2016-2017 Fall Fundraiser Chair.
"The special part is that we're confident we're going to put Arlington, the American Dream City, in the spotlight again, this time in the Guinness World Record books."
The tournament will feature teams of two that will compete in a single-elimination, bracket style tournament. Prizes will be given for the top finishers, best costume, and best team spirit.
There are other options available for those who want to attend, but not participate in the tournament. There's a festival that will feature food, drinks, vendors, live music and a kid zone. It's an event that has something for everyone. "We wanted to make sure we had something that every member of the family can enjoy," Lockhart said. "It's also a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon."
All proceeds from the event will go toward abuse prevention, the JLA's new community impact focus. "This money stays right here in the Arlington community helping make a difference in our residents' lives," said Julie Reinhardt, the 2016-2017 JLA President.
This is the first of three events kicking off a new suite of fundraisers for the JLA that highlights its 35 years of service in Arlington.
The event is on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Two-person team tickets are $50. Spectator ticket prices are $10, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the JLA website.
