Arlington Voters Elect Three City Council Members, Approved Quarter-Cent Sales Tax Election; Run-Off Election for District 7 Seat Set for Dec. 8

Arlington voters elected three City Council members and approved the adoption of an additional quarter-cent City sales and use tax during the Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, General Election. The District 7 City Council race will be decided in a run-off election Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, as no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote.

The quarter-cent sales and use tax, which will go into effect next April, would be used to fund an Economic Development Corporation, to undertake such projects as authorized by Chapter 505 of the Texas Local Government Code. The proposition was approved with 55.18% of the vote, according to unofficial vote totals.

District 1: Incumbent Helen Moise was re-elected with 66.87% of the vote, according to unofficial voting totals. J.J. Fenceroy received 33.13%, according to unofficial totals.

District 2: Raul H. Gonzalez was elected as the new District 2 City Council representative with 54.06% of the vote. Jo Anna Cardoza received 45.94% of the vote for the open seat, according to unofficial totals.

District 6: Ruby Faye Woolridge was elected as the new District 6 at-large City Council representative with 50.91% of the vote, according to unofficial totals. John D. Hibbs received 49.09% of the vote for the open seat, according to unofficial totals.

District 7: Four candidates vied for the District 7 at-large seat. Incumbent Victoria Farrar-Myers, who received 47.47% of the vote, will face challenger Antoine Lane, who received 20.37% of the vote, in a runoff election Dec. 8, 2020. Two other candidates also vied for the seat. Hunter Crow received 14.81% and Chris “Dobi” Dobson received 17.36% of the total vote, according to unofficial totals.
