Six Events to Celebrate

Arlington residents are invited to celebrate the community's veterans during a series of events planned over the next week. Veteran's Day is Saturday, November 11, 2017.

Here are a few activities scheduled across The American Dream City.

Veteran Round Up

Veteran's Day festivities in Arlington will kick off with the 2nd annual Veteran Round Up, hosted by VetStarts, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Charles Wade Building, 301 S. Center St. in Downtown.

The Veteran Round-Up will feature an art show, guest speakers, veteran service providers, food trucks, games, service dogs and more. Click here to register.

The Veterans' Experience

Come out and join the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus for "The Veterans' Experience' from 11:45 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6.

Veterans will discuss their experiences in and out of the military. Excerpts from the writings of World War I soldiers and others will frame the discussion. Air Force veteran and Public Services Librarian, James Foreman, will moderate the panel.

The campus is located at 2100 Southeast Pkwy in Southeast Arlington.

"Hiring Red, White - You!'

Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, the Texas Veterans Commission and Texas Workforce Commission is gearing up for the 6th Annual Hiring Red, White - You! Job Fair for veterans, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9, 2017 at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

TWC's Hiring Red, White - You! aims to connect Texas veterans and their spouses with Texas employers who value the skills, experience, discipline and other exceptional qualities inherent with a military background.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register online to expedite their entrance into the job fair. Click here to pre-register. Onsite registration is available also.

Veterans Day Commemorative Ceremony

The Arlington Great Southwest Rotary Club invites the community to attend the Veterans Day Commemorative Ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Veterans Park Memorial, 3600 W. Arkansas Lane.

The ceremony, featuring keynote speaker Col. Christopher Talcott, will honor U.S. Armed Forces veterans. Those who served as Combat Medics, Medevac Pilots and Crews, Hospital Corpsmen, and medical, nursing and psychological caregivers will receive special recognition.

A complimentary lunch for attendees will immediately follow the ceremony at the park pavilion.

Arlington Heroes Run

Grab your running shoes and head out to the 3rd Annual Arlington Heroes Run 5k and Fun Run Saturday, Nov. 11 at Veterans Park, 3600 W. Arkansas Lane. The Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K start is at 9 a.m.

The run benefits military veterans and emergency first responders. Proceeds go to City of Arlington related 501(c)3 charities. A third is contributed to the Arlington Police Foundation, Arlington Fire's Random Acts of Kindness fund and the Veterans Park Memorial Foundation which aims to complete the memorial to veterans in Veterans Park.

Registrations is $25 per person, group registration (10 or more) is $15 each and participants under 16 years of age is $15.

Arlington Heroes Parade

Bring out your lawn chairs and make your way out to the inaugural Arlington Heroes Parade, featuring American Wife author Taya Kyle as grand marshal, this Veteran's Day in Downtown Arlington.

The parade, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 11 and aims to honor Arlington's veterans, active military members and first responders.

The Arlington Heroes Parade is expected to feature floats, vintage cars, firefighters, police officers, veterans, active duty military members, and organizations focused on supporting military and first responders.
