Arlington Animal Services' "bottle babies" are off to a wonderful start, thanks to a $5,000 grant awarded by Maddie's Fund. This new, innovative Foster Pet Care Project titled, "A Great Start for Bottle Babies" will supply the shelter with starter kits for unweaned kittens.

Maddie's Fund®is a family foundation created in 1994 by Workday®co-founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl who have endowed the Foundation with more than $300 million. Since then, the Foundation has awarded more than $225.7 million in grants toward increased community lifesaving, shelter management leadership, shelter medicine education, and foster care across the U.S.

The Duffield's named Maddie's Fund after their Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie, who always made them laugh and gave them much joy. Maddie was with Dave and Cheryl for 10 years and continues to inspire them today.

Maddie's Fund is the fulfillment of a promise to an inspirational dog, investing its resources to create a no-kill nation where every dog and cat is guaranteed a healthy home or habitat. #ThanksToMaddie.

Animal Services is partnering with Arlington Cats Alive and the 2014 Volunteer of the Year, Gina Piner, on this project to help unweaned kittens coming into the shelter. Each package provided by the grant includes KMR neonatal formula, a snuggle warmer, baby wipes, a blanket, cat toys, bottles, nipples, and a pet crate. The goal of the program is to provide unweaned kittens, not ready for adoption, a chance to live and be loved until they can be adopted.

"It is always outstanding to work together to find new ways to help the animals entering our shelter and with the groups working to help these unweaned kittens," said Animal Services Manager Chris Huff.

Much appreciation to Maddie's Fund for the generous grant awarded to Arlington Animal Services to help the shelter be a part of fulfilling the promise made to Maddie.

Many thanks, too, to Arlington Cats Alive and Piner for the tireless contributions to the Foster Pet Program dedicating time and energy to help save bottle babies.
