1. Clear the Shelters Day, August 18

Arlington Animal Services wants to adopt every single pet this year at Clear the Shelters Day. Since 2014, Animal Services has participated each year, and waived adoption fees for a total of 342 pets at this annual event. At this moment, in addition to dogs and cats, Animal Services even has bunnies available for adoption. Availability may change as Clear the Shelters Day approaches. Make plans to attend on Saturday, August 18, between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Animal Services is located at 1000 S.E. Green Oaks Boulevard, 76018.

2. Angels vs. Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington

The Texas Rangers host the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Park in Arlington this weekend for a four-game series. The Rangers will play at 7:05 p.m. CT on Thursday through Saturday, and at 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday. Thursday is Coast Guard Appreciation Night. Fans will enjoy a fireworks show after the game on Friday. On Saturday, the first 15,000 fans will receive a Coca-Cola/Walmart Nomar Mazara Bobblehead and enjoy a post-game concert by Casey Donahew. 3. George W. Hawkes Downtown Library

Bring the family out to enjoy the new George W. Hawkes Downtown Library this weekend, with multiple events planned for all ages! Play with the library's Imagination Playground in The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 3-9 p.m. on Friday, August 17. Drop-In Genealogy Help will also be available on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. The dedicated time of personalized instruction & research assistance will help you get started, get un-stuck, or possibly even help you make a breakthrough. 4. Hurricane Harbor

It's time to break out the swimwear, slather on the sunscreen, and dust off your sunglasses for a fun-filled season at Hurricane Harbor! This summer season is sure to rock with plenty of activities for the entire family. Cool off with the kiddos at Hook's Lagoon with four mini slides, water sprayers and shallow water to splash around in. For the thrills seekers in the family, hop onto Tornado and travel down the 132 foot slide in the mouth of a gigantic funnel. Hurricane Harbor will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

5. Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas, the Thrill Capital of Texas, continues its 57th season in The American Dream City. The park will open this weekend for guests to enjoy their favorite coasters and attractions, including the ultimate Super-Villain thrill ride-HARLEY QUINN Spinsanity. The park's operating hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Sunday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. 6. Las Vegas Aces vs. Dallas Wings at College Park Center

The Dallas Wings will host the Las Vegas Aces at College Park Center in Arlington this Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m. CT. for the team's final regular season home game. The home game will also be Back to School Fan Appreciation Night, featuring $1 hot dogs. After making an appearance in the 2017 WNBA Playoffs led by three-time all-star Skylar Diggins-Smith and 2017 WNBA Rookie of the Year Allisha Gray, the Wings look to make the playoffs once again in 2018 with the inclusion of Australian Center Liz Cambage. 7. Live Music at Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club

Head over to Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club in Downtown Arlington for two nights of live music this weekend. On Friday night, the Bar Stool Brothers will take the stage at 9 p.m. featuring a heavy blues sound. have played shows all over Arlington, and even branched out to Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Austin, TX. On Saturday night, residents and visitors can check out Clayton Gardner, a singer/songwriter currently out of College Station, TX. That show gets underway at 9 p.m. Grease Monkey is located at 200 N Mesquite St, Arlington, TX 76011.

8. Live Music at J.R. Bentley's

Check out live music on the patio with the Mudhouse Blues Band this Friday, August 17, 2018 at J.R. Bentley's in Downtown Arlington. The show starts at 8 p.m. Our Saturday, Tamara King will perform at 8 p.m. Situated in a historic home, J.R. Bentley's has the feel of an authentic English pub and features several local and area bands throughout the year. The venue is located at 406 W Abram St, Arlington, TX 76010. 9. Theatre Arlington presents: The Sweetest Swing in Baseball

Theatre Arlington presents The Sweetest Swing in Baseball this weekend in Downtown, by Rebecca Gilman. The show runs through Sunday, August 26. The Sweetest Swing in Baseball is appropriate for audiences aged 16 and up and does feature adult language.

  • Friday & Saturday - 8 p.m.
  • Sunday - 2 p.m.

10. Shows at UTA Planetarium

UTA Planetarium continues to offer shows to residents and visitors. This includes Spacepark 360: Infinity, a planetarium show designed to recreate the experience of amusement park thrill rides, roller coasters, pendulums, inverters and more.
