The Arlington Police Department Media Office has won a 2013 Best of Texas Award from the Center for Digital Government. The award recognizes the department's innovative use of social media and the news program Inside APD. The award was presented June 9 in Austin during the Government Technology Conference.

Produced entirely by Police Department employees, officers often serve as hosts in this weekly news program that profiles various units, highlights great police work and celebrates community partnerships that serve to make Arlington safer. APD uses various social media platforms to market and distribute the program, including YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Viewers can also watch the program on the Arlington government channel.

According to judges who scored and evaluated digital government projects from across the state, " Inside APD is doing an excellent job of increasing collaboration and expanding citizen engagement."

This is the second consecutive year that APD has garnered a Best of Texas Award for social media innovation. In 2012, the Tweetalong was awarded a top honor. Tweetalongs place Twitter followers in the passenger seat of patrol cars as officers serve and protect the community.
