Forever Forest Visiting Exhibit
Forever Forest by Omaha Children’s Museum, is an immersive exhibit that teaches families how their everyday lives are connected to forests through the ways they live, work, and play. Families will enjoy hands-on activities focused on forest life and sustainable harvesting. Visit the River Legacy Nature Center to explore the forest like never before. Climb, crawl and slide on treetops, become a conductor for a day and work a kid-sized replica of a Union Pacific engine, or work together to build a house as you learn about the many things wood is used for! The exhibit runs through Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024.
Lunar New Year
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon this weekend at the annual Lunar New Year Celebration at Ben Thanh Plaza in East Arlington. The celebration, which is expected to include a Lion Dance, flower market, food vendors, live music, lucky money envelopes for children and more, runs from Friday, Feb. 2 through Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Ben Thanh Plaza, located at 1818 E. Pioneer Parkway. The festivities are open to the public.
Little Explorers – Downtown Library
Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning. This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills. Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library
Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. Join Arlington Animal Services mobile adoption truck will be at PetSmart Highlands with furry friends to meet 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. Family Orienteering
Bring out the whole family and learn the sport of Orienteering at a slower, gentler family pace. Parents and kids will work together to locate hidden orienteering markers throughout River Legacy Nature Center/Park 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. See who can locate the most within a set time limit. Speed or smart planning, which will get you the most points? No experience required and no compass needed. Simple trail map reading skills and a sense of adventure are all the tools you need. Click here to register.

DIY Rainwater Harvesting
Reduce the effects of flooding and drought by capturing rainfall to water your landscape at a later date. Learn the basic theory and methods behind rainwater catchment, and how to build one at home. The event takes place 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at the Southeast Branch Library. This can also be a workshop with a pre-built rain barrel available for purchase by attendees for an additional fee. KUTUB: Arabic Book Club
The Arabic Book Club “Kutub” meets at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Resilience Multipurpose Room for on the first Saturday of the month in February from 12-1:30 p.m., while repairs are made to the Northeast Branch Library. Members will discuss novels, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, music, feature films or documentaries that explore Arabic culture. Read and discuss what you’ve read. Exploring new cultures, values, and practices is what makes us better human beings as any culture has things to teach us, regardless of differences. Open for adults and seniors. Crochet for beginners
Jump into the hobby of crochet! Staff at the Arlington Public Library will teach you about hooks, yarn, and basic stitches to get you started on your journey. This class is limited to the first 11 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 9+.
