Windows rattled in Arlington City Hall and buildings across downtown around 12:45 Friday afternoon when a Union Pacific freight train derailed in the 500 block of Front Street. Six tanker cars were involved in the derailment, four were carrying corn syrup, two were empty at the time of the accident.

There were no injuries reported but traffic throughout downtown was tied up for hours as UP workers brought in equipment to move the cars off the track. Shortly before 7 pm Friday night, Arlington Police reported all major intersections in downtown Arlington were reopened.

Front Street at Elm is to remain closed as a staging area for UP workers and their equipment while the cleanup continues.
