Young flying enthusiasts will have the chance to earn their wings at the Young Eagles Rally on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Arlington Municipal Airport, 5000 South Collins St.

The event is free and open to children age 8 to 17 who want to take an introductory flight in a small airplane. It is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Dalworth Chapter 34 and coincides with International Learn to Fly Day.

"Arlington Municipal Airport is very pleased to host this event,"said Karen Vanwinkle, Municipal Airport Manager. " The aviation industry will soon experience a severe shortage of professionals, from mechanics to pilots, air traffic controllers to airport management. The Young Eagles program gives boys and girls the opportunity to discover the thrill of flight and hopefully consider aviation as a career."

The Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 by the EAA to provide a meaningful flight experience in a general aviation aircraft for young people. Flights are provided by more than 43,000 EAA member volunteer pilots.

EAA Dalworth Chapter 34 was formed in 1956 and is a non-profit corporation operating as a local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association. The group focuses on positive awareness of general aviation and aircraft education and safety.
