Hurricane Harvey: Where You Can Donate to Help Disaster Relief and Recovery

With unprecedented rains and historic flooding, Hurricane Harvey has caused widespead damage in several Texas communities. Here are some ways you can provide support to help families and communities rebuild in the aftermath of this devastating storm:

Donations

  • American Red Cross: To donate, visit redcross.org, call 800-REDCROSS or text "HARVEY" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
  • The Salvation Army: To donate, visit www.salvationarmyusa.org, call 800-SAL-ARMY or text "STORM" to 51555.
  • Catholic Charities USA: To donate, visit catholiccharitiesusa.org.
  • Humane Society of North Texas: To donate, visit www.hsnt.org/donate
  • SPCA of Texas: Accepting donations of cat litter, litter boxes, towels, blankets, treats, toys and newspapers. Donations can be taken to 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas or give money online at www.spca.org/give
  • United Way of Tarrant County has activated its Emergency Aid Fund, which will provide assistance for the long-term recovery of families who have been evacuated to Tarrant County. Choose "United Way's Emergency Aid Fund" in the drop down menu at https://unitedwaytarrant.org/DONATE/.
  • Former Arlington resident and country singer Chris Young has established a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for those affected by the natural disaster. Funds will be donated to the Red Cross and other local Texas disaster relief organizations. www.gofundme.com/harveyrelief
  • North Texas Food Bank is working with partners to make sure food needs for evacuees in local shelters are being met. The NTFB requests monetary donations, not food donations. They are also working with Feeding Texas and Feeding America to help ready Texas food banks if that assistance is needed. www.ntfb.org/get-involved/donate-money-landing/disaster-relief
  • Mansfield ISD is partnering with the Salvation Army to assist those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Requested donations include cases of bottled water, cases of Gatorade, granola bars, new toothbrushes, new toothpaste, new and unopened disposable diapers and new and unopened baby wipes. Donations can be made at MISD schools until Friday, Sept. 8.
  • Through the Mass Care Task Force collaboration, agencies like the American Red Cross, North Texas Region and the Salvation Army DFW Command are working to meet the immediate needs of families and individuals displaced from their homes by the flooding.   • Trusted World will accept new underwear, new socks, new warmups for men, women, children and infants, toiletries/hygiene products, baby formula and baby wipes, bottles, diapers and the Graco Pack n' Plays for babies to sleep in. Drop off is at 15660 N. Dallas Parkway in Dallas, just north of Arapaho Road on the north side of the Parkway. Follow the signs to drop off donations. The donations center will open daily from 3 to 8 p.m. daily.www.trustedworld.org
  • The Junior League of Arlington is accepting donations that will be delivered to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center shelter in Dallas. Items that are most requested include toiletries and hygiene products, new underwear and new socks, baby formula, baby wipes, bottles, diapers, Graco Pack n' Plays for babies to sleep in and new warm-ups for men, women, children and infants. Items will be accepted 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, and noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Junior League of Arlington's Center for Community Service, 4002 W. Pioneer Parkway.
  • National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster is accepting monetary donations. Nearly 50 Texas organizations, such as the Texas Baptist Men (www.tbmtx.org) and Samaritan's Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org), are members of the organization and are providing support and donations to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.www.nvoad.org
  • Save the Children is on the ground in Texas, and has set up a relief fund for kids and families affected by Harvey.www.savethechildren.org
  • Global Giving crowdfunding community is attempting to raise $2 million to "provide relief to survivors in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance to help residents recover and rebuild."   • Texas Diaper Bank is requesting donations of cash and diapers to provide emergency diaper kits for families that are being displaced due to Hurricane Harvey. Visit the donation page at texasdiaperbank.org and designate your donation for Disaster Relief.
  • Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund after receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries of people reaching out to offer help. The funds will be administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation and accepts tax-deductible flood-relief donations. www.ghcf.org
  • Portlight is working to ensure that people who require medical equipment and assistive technology have what they need after they evacuate, and to make sure that those same folks can get to safety. They accept donations via PayPal. www.portlight.org
  • Direct Relief USA offers prescription drugs and other medical supplies to those who need it in emergency situations, and works with clinics and primary care doctors to ensure that people can get what they need when they need it. They're accepting financial contributions. www.directrelief.org/usa
  • Rental site Airbnb.com is connecting evacuees in the path of the storm with free, short-term lodging. Airbnb hosts in designated areas are able to volunteer their rentals through a sign-up program. That's also where evacuees can request lodging. The program has been activated in several cities, including Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. It will run through Sept. 1.
  • Americares is collecting cash donations to provide emergency medicine, water and basic supplies.
  • GoFundMe has established a Hurricane Harvey Relief page for those interested in supporting individuals with verified campaigns.

Volunteer:

Tarrant Area Food Bank is seeking volunteers to help pack and sort food for distribution to local food pantries and shelters supporting Hurricane Harvey evacuees.
