The Arlington Public Library is proud to announce Bobby Vines as the Volunteer of the Month for the City of Arlington in April.

Bobby has volunteered for the library since 2014 after retiring from a long, successful career as an electrical engineer. His career spanned over 45 years, beginning with Howard Hughes Aircraft Company in California. Through the years the company changed hands and is currently known as L3 Technologies, where it brought him to Texas.

Growing up in a small town in Louisiana, Bobby loved going to the library. There was no television and the library was a main source of entertainment. He loves reading science fiction and books on war. He likes all the benefits that a library has to offer, and he likes the direction the Arlington Public Library is going. He chose being a library volunteer because he wants to contribute to the library's endeavors.

Bobby said his volunteer onboarding experience was instrumental in making him feel useful and wanted. He appreciates the introduction into the library during his first few months.

Public Service Coordinator Shana Munn trained Bobby and said, "Bobby is as lifesaver who takes pride in his work and truly believes in giving back to his community. He is a delight to work with and consistently comes up with ways to provide stellar customer service."

"Bobby is very dependable and is a big part of our team at the Lake Arlington Branch," said Karen Ehrie, who works with Bobby. "He is our knight in shining armor!"

Not only does Bobby help get material back on the shelves but he works with reports to ensure that the item status is correct, and he will play a lead volunteer role in moving into our new Downtown Library. What does he enjoy most about being a volunteer? Interfacing with staff and patrons!

Congratulations Bobby!
