Children Workshop Helps Parents

Stories to Our Children returns to the Arlington Public Library this spring. This free seven-week workshop teaches parents to write stories for their children. Every family has its legends, traditions, and stories to pass down. Sharing these between generations promotes a love of reading, but it also creates lasting family bonds. Stories to Our Children empowers parents to write and illustrate their stories, then to share these memories with their children.

At the end of the workshop, every participant receives a bound copy of their story. These books can be read over and over again with children, grandchildren, and the rest of the family. Parents who read to their children set them on a path of lifelong literacy. By writing a book for their children, parents can directly inspire imagination and learning! An anthology of all stories is also added to the Library's catalog after each workshop.

Stories to Our Children is presented in partnership with the Modern Language Department and Center for Mexican American Studies at UTA. Student volunteers and Library staff will help parents imagine, write, and refine their stories. Three Stories to Our Children sessions are available this spring, beginning January 30. Registration is not required, but parents must attend the first meeting in order to participate.
