Welcome to the Arlington Police Department's, Internet Crime and Police Report Search Page….

THIS DATABASE SEARCH IS NOT INTENDED TO SERVE AS A REPRESENTATION OF “OFFICIAL” CRIME REPORTING STATISTICS. IT IS MERELY PROVIDED AS A TOOL FOR GENERALIZED INFORMATION AND SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON AS OFFICIAL CRIME STATS. THE ARLINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS OFFICIAL CRIME STATS THROUGH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY WHICH PRODUCES REPORTS THAT ARE PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE UNDER THE PUBLIC REPORTS SECTION OF THIS WEBSITE.

SEARCH CRIME STATS DATABASE

The Database

The Database used to generate reports from this page contains nearly 100,000 police records, encompassing the most recent 13-month period. Information is updated nightly. The incident database includes all events that result in the generation of a police report number:

  • this should ALWAYS include arrests, reported crimes, domestic disturbances and major traffic accidents. Report numbers are also generated as the result of residential and commercial burglar alarms (for permit and false alarm tracking purposes).
  • police reports MAY be generated as a result of various other incidents to which police respond…suspicious persons, investigations, disturbances, civil disputes, etc.
  • police reports are typically NOT generated in response to minor traffic accidents, parking complaints, 911 hang-up calls, minor disturbances, traffic stops, and many other police incidents that are generally considered routine in nature.

Incident Descriptions

Incident Descriptions are selected by the officer who responded to the call…this is designated on the report title as “Type of Call”. Officers try to select a call type that best describes the event. However, these descriptions are occasionally not accurate due to coding errors or omissions by officers in updating call types. Incident names were selected because they are descriptive in nature and conform to widely understood police jargon. Incident descriptions do not conform to Texas Penal Code definitions or Uniform Crime Report criteria (the standard adopted by the FBI).

Incident descriptions may change as the result of further investigation. For instance, a call may be reflected on this report as a burglary. Upon further investigation by a detective, the incident description may change to a theft or robbery. In fact, the reported crime may not have occurred at all and may be “unfounded” based on further investigation. The incident description on the “official” version of the police offense report may differ from the description on this report. In summary, data-flow is dynamic and event descriptions, locations and statuses are prone to changes and updates that may not be reflected on lists generated from this data. Please read below for additional cautions regarding use of the data.

All Addresses Displayed

All addresses displayed on the report list are rounded to the hundred block. Examples: a crime occurring at 421 Main St will appear as 400 Main St. An event occurring at 5583 Main St will appear as 5500 Main St. Calls that occur at intersections display both the primary and secondary cross streets.

The address displayed on the report indicates the location where the officer responded, not necessarily where the crime or incident occurred. For example, police are frequently dispatched to the police station or hospital to take a crime report…the crime incident didn't occur at the police station or hospital, but the call record will reflect that address. In addition, crime victims frequently drive home to report a crime. The offense may have occurred at a shopping mall for instance, but the call was received from the victim's residence.

The Street Directory and Common Names

The street directory and common names were created using a variety of data sources. The street (or address) list is the same one used by the 911 dispatch system…it is generally accurate and up to date. Common place names are school, park and apartment complex names. School names were provided by the Arlington and Mansfield school districts. The City of Arlington, Parks Department supplied Park names. Apartment complex names originate from a file maintained by the City of Arlington, Technology Services Department.

The common place name search provides great benefit to users because of its ease of use…it also contains a margin of error due to the multitude of data sources and its dynamic nature. Users are asked to use caution and independently verify search results when in question.

The Report Status

The report status displayed on the report list indicates the type of report submitted by the officer. The report types include:

  • Arrest reports - someone is arrested and taken to jail
  • Routine Offense Report - reported crimes that have no investigatable leads and are not violent in nature
  • Miscellaneous Incident Report - a non-crime report submitted for informational purposes only
  • Traffic Accident Reports - completed as the results of a motor vehicle accident investigation

The Date and Time Displayed

The date and time displayed on the report is the day of week and time of day that the officer responded to the call for service. It does not necessarily indicate when the crime occurred. Many crimes are reported long after the fact.

Appropriate & Inappropriate Uses of This Data

This data is intended to provide the public with a general overview of crime and police-related activities at a given location or in a specified geographic area. We are hopeful that the site can serve as a tool to create an awareness of crime in the areas where we live, work, learn or spend leisure time.

Because of data-flow and coding issues previously discussed, the data is in no way intended as a representation of “official” crime statistics and is inappropriate for use in litigation or any other legal or court proceedings. Users interested in “official” crime statistics for legal purposes should submit a written request in conformance to open records requirements.
