Gateway Monument

Arlington residents and businesses are encouraged to help light up The American Dream City in blue on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, in celebration of World Teachers’ Day.

Arlington will light up its gateway monument signs and select city buildings in blue on Monday as part of the “Teachers Light the Way Celebration” in Texas. Others who want to show their support for our community’s outstanding educators are asked to tie light blue ribbons around their trees or wear light blue on Monday.

“We’ve always been aware how fortunate we are to have outstanding teachers in the Arlington ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. “This theme makes perfect sense. As a community we’ve been able to see how our teachers have excelled in uncertain times. They are real-life superheroes.”

World Teachers’ Day has been held annually on Oct, 5 since 1994. This year’s theme is “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.” This theme encapsulates both the extreme challenges teachers are facing in the COVID-19 era and how they are responding to the call and continuing to meet the needs of all students.

As part of its mission to Support Youth & Families, the City of Arlington is proud to join United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), #TeachersCan and organizations all around the world to celebrate World Teachers’ Day.
