José Guadalupe Posada: Legendary Printmaker of Mexico
Experience the artistry of José Guadalupe Posada, a visionary illustrator whose legacy is perhaps the most influential of all Mexican artists but whose name was almost lost to history. Little Explorers – Downtown Library
Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning. This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills. Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Parents' Night Out

The Human Library
Are you interested in diverse perspectives? If so, this is the program for you! In this program you will have the opportunity to "check out" people with different life experiences, ask them questions, have courteous and respectful conversations, and learn about different life experiences! Forever Forest Visiting Exhibit
Forever Forest by Omaha Children’s Museum, is an immersive exhibit that teaches families how their everyday lives are connected to forests through the ways they live, work, and play. Families will enjoy hands-on activities focused on forest life and sustainable harvesting. Visit the Nature Center this fall to explore the forest like never before. Climb, crawl and slide on treetops, become a conductor for a day and work a kid-sized replica of a Union Pacific engine, or work together to build a house as you learn about the many things wood is used for! The exhibit starts Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, and run through Saturday, Feb. 10, 2023.

Join in for a half day of expert-led workshops designed to help current and aspiring entrepreneurs boost their business and learn the skills to be successful small business owners. From bootstrap fundraising to donors and sponsorships, learn about the variety of approaches you can take to fund your small business. Scott Parsinen, multi-entrepreneur and non-profit champion with over 30 years of business experience, will impart key methods to finding and picking the best funding sources for your business.
10:30am - No-Stress Business Plans
Business coach Erin Lewis of Black Storm coaching will walk attendees through the practical steps for creating a working business plan. You've got the skills, you've got the passion, now learn the business concepts that will get you where you want to be.
11:30am - Branding Your Business
Ben Dolezal, associate professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, will guide attendees in understanding how branding works to make your business stand out. Learn what makes a great brand and how to attract the audience you want. Ben Dolezal is a designer, creative strategist, educator, and researcher with more than 14 years of experience in the creative and educational industries.
12:30pm - From Idea to Storefront
Lauren Brewer, owner and co-creator of Union Worx Coworking, takes attendees on the journey from turning your small business idea into a full-fledged business. In this workshop, she will offer advice and tips on how to stick with your idea and make it a reality.

On Tap's 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off
The On Tap Chili Cook-Off contest is open to anyone. It takes place 12-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at On Tap. All entries must be homemade and not store bought. All safe food handling and canning processes must be followed. Each contestant or team will be given a contestant number. Your number will be visible to the public. The voters receive a ticket to drop off into their choice of best entry. The more people you know the better chance you have of winning!
Spice Club: Vanilla
Learn about Vanilla 12-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Southeast Branch Library. Learn different ways to spice things up in your kitchen. At Spice Club, you will learn about a different spice every month. Attend to discover a spice and receive a take-and-make kit featuring a variety of unique spices, herbs, or blends. Check out new cookbooks and recipes or bring a favorite recipe of yours to share!
Each kit will include:
- Information about the featured spice, its history with a few facts;
- two simple recipe suggestions;
- Small packet of the featured spice to try.
Spice of the month kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household. No registration required.
Embroidery for Beginners: Tea Towels
Learn the basics of the embroidery machine and prepare for hosting season with a personalized tea towel 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. Materials will be provided. This class is limited to the first 5 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 13+.
Fluid Art
Fluid art or pour painting with acrylic is a fun and exciting way to create beautiful abstract art 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Catalyst Creative Arts. You will use various colored and premixed acrylic paints on a 16 x 20 or 18 x 24-inch canvas. Our artists will instruct you through several fluid art techniques and work with you as you complete your project. Paintings will be left to dry for 72 hours at the studio and then varnished by our artist before they can be picked up. No experience necessary. Recommended for 8 years and up. All materials provided.

Downtown Impressions: A Community Plein Air Experience
This event takes place 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at Knapp Heritage Park. Led by experienced plein air artists, these sessions are open to painters of all skill levels. Each session will focus on a different downtown scene, from bustling streets to quiet parks, allowing you to explore the unique character of the city. Bring your own supplies or rent a kit provided by Catalyst Creative Arts and get ready to create your own masterpiece in the heart of the city. You'll have the chance to meet and mingle with other artists, and even sell your artwork at a group exhibition at the end of the series at Create Arlington. Paint kits include: a canvas, one paint tube of each {black, white, pt blue, pt green, yellow, red, b sienna} and two paint brushes. Admission is free. The paint kit is $5.
Sunday Brunch
Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon french toast and served with maple syrup!
