Water Project Update

Arlington Water Utilities recently completed its 2019 Water Main Replacement project, which resulted in the renewal of about 14,600 feet (2.8 miles) of 6-inch to 12-inch water mains throughout the city.

The locations were chosen based on histories of water main breaks and other maintenance data. Completion of the $2.6 million project will reduce maintenance and improve water service to the areas involved.

Locations included in the 2019 Water Main Replacement project included:

  • South Collins Street, between East Park Row Drive and East Pioneer Parkway
  • Neighborhoods west of Daniel Drive extending to Ozark Drive, between East Timberview Lane and B.C. Barnes Park.
  • Chestnut Drive between Spring Drive and Ravinia Drive
  • South Fielder Road, between Azalea Drive and West Park Row Drive, and a portion of the 1500 block of West Park Row Drive.

The Arlington City Council approved a contract for the Water Main Replacement project with Murphy Pipeline Contractors in June 2019.

During the work, existing 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch water mains were replaced with new 8-inch or 12-inch mains. Murphy Contractors used a trenchless method of main replacement that involves pulling new water main through existing pipe. This process requires limited excavation, which minimizes construction time and disruption to customers.
