City of Arlington officials gathered at the John F. Kubala Water Treatment Plant in South Arlington on Friday to celebrate the kickoff of a $12.3 million new laboratory and maintenance building for the city’s water department.
The new Arlington Water Utilities Laboratory and Maintenance Building will combine three buildings that are all in need of expansion and updating into one modern 26,825-square-foot facility. The construction contract also includes: the remodel of a mini-lab, offices, and control room improvements at the John F. Kubala Treatment Plant on U.S. Hwy 287, which currently has limited space for staff.
The city’s two Water Treatment Plants produced more than 18 billion gallons of water in 2021. During that time, Arlington Water Utilities laboratory employees also collected and tested 6,131 samples from the treatment plant and throughout the city’s distribution system.
The City of Arlington selected Source Building Group, Inc., of Fort Worth, for the lab and maintenance building project, through a competitive sealed proposal procurement method for the construction contract. Speakers on Friday noted Arlington Water Utilities’ strong commitment to Arlington’s Local and Minority Women-Owned Business Enterprise Policy. Source Building is an MWBE firm with a portfolio of successful projects throughout North Texas.
