Arlington is a generous community year-round. And that kindness is especially on display during the holiday season. From serving Thanksgiving meals at Mission Arlington to ringing bells for The Salvation Army, your volunteer work changes lives.

If you're looking for volunteer opportunities this season, here are a few places to start.

Mission Arlington

Every year, Mission Arlington serves Thanksgiving meals to thousands of families. But the workers can't do it alone. They need your help on Thanksgiving and during the days leading up to the holiday.

If you're interested in volunteering, visit the link above or call 817-277-6620.

You can also drop off food items at 210 W. South Street. Items still needed include:

  • Turkey
  • Ham
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned sweet potatoes
  • Canned pie filling
  • Canned cranberry sauce
  • Boxed mashed potatoes
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Beans
  • Rice
  • Tuna
  • Peanut butter
  • Rolls
  • Pie crust

Meals on Wheels

Help serve one of our homebound, elderly and disabled residents by volunteering with Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County. The organization delivers 1 million meals each year including on Thanksgiving. Click the link above for more information or call 817-336-0912.

Meals on Wheels also sponsors the Silver Santa Giving Tree. Clients wish for health and safety products or personal items. If you're interested in sponsoring a Silver Santa recipient, click here

City of Arlington

Volunteers help The City of Arlington in a range of departments, from police to animal services. Through their time, we are able to make Arlington an even better place to live, learn, work and play. Click the link above to learn more about Arlington's MVP (Municipal Volunteer Program.)

The Salvation Army

Through its partnership with the Cowboys, the Salvation Army has become part of Arlington's Thanksgiving Day traditions. You'll see a giant red kettle on the sidelines at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving. But a big part of the kickoff happens outside the Stadium.

The Salvation Army needs volunteers to ring bells and man the kettles at the game.

The organization also has an Angel Tree at The Parks Mall, to make sure every child has something to open on Christmas. If you're interested in helping with the Angel Tree, you can also volunteer at the mall.

Click the link above to learn more about both opportunities.

United Way of Tarrant County

If you'd like to connect with a nonprofit more closely related to your interests or skill set, United Way of Tarrant County is a great place to start. The organization can help you find the perfect fit, to make your volunteer experience even more rewarding. Click the link above to browse volunteer listings or call 817-258-8000.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities specializes in a variety of services, all aimed at ending poverty. The Diocese has a campus in Arlington, offering everything from immigration assistance to transportation services. You'll need to go through an approval process before you can serve. Click the link above to find opportunities or call 817-274-2560.

Arlington ISD

Share your time and talents with the next generation. Arlington ISD is always looking for volunteers to serve in the classroom, front office or other locations. You'll need to complete an application process available at the link above.
