The Arlington community turned out Thursday for the 14th annual Veterans Day Commemorative Ceremony at Veterans Park, 3600 W. Arkansas Lane.

Organized by the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation and the Arlington Great Southwest Rotary Club, this important ceremony paid respects to all veterans who bravely served our nation. Special focus this year was to honor members of the United States Armed Forces who are recipients of the Medal of Honor. Col. Jim Quick, U.S.A.F retired, was the Master of Ceremonies, and Captain Florent A. Groberg, US Army, was this year's featured speaker. Captain Groberg received the Medal of Honor for his sacrifice and bravery in Afghanistan in 2012.

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, a U.S. Marine veteran, presented a proclaimation during Thursday's ceremony.

"I want to thank both the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation and the Arlington Great Southwest Rotary Club for organizing this event each year. When we talk about our love for our country and our military veterans here in Arlington, we really mean it and rise to the occasion in a big way. And it’s events like today that showcase how patriotic our community really is," Ross said.

Special patriotic music was provided by the Honorable Judge Carr and the Cowtown Music Club. Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a complimentary lunch courtesy of the Heroes of South Vietnam Memorial Foundation.

"The Arlington Veterans Park Foundation dedicated our first Veterans memorial in the Park in 2008. We have commemorated Veterans Day every year since. Once again, we will honor our great country and the men and women of our armed forces. Also honoring our allies for the sacrifices to preserve, support it, and protect our lives, liberties, and pursuit of happiness,” said Event Coordinator Jim Runzheimer, Captain, US Army, Infantry Airborne Special Forces, retired.
